2.8 million Euros for associations in sports facilities

The signing ceremony of the protocols for the free use of municipal sports facilities took place this Saturday morning, February 4th

Through these protocols, about 4500 athletes from 53 institutions (42 sports and 11 social institutions) use 32 municipal sports facilities under the management of Matosinhos Sport, including 6 swimming pools, 14 pavilions, 6 soccer fields, 1 athletics track and 5 sports halls; It is in these places that we can find, daily, the practice of more than 20 different sports, including handball, athletics, basketball, billiards, boxing, capoeira, adapted sports, soccer, gymnastics, water aerobics, roller field hockey, karate, kickboxing, diving, swimming, skating, pentathlon, water polo, triathlon and volleyball.

The event took place in the municipal pavilion of Guifões and, besides most of the representatives of the institutions supported by the municipality with these protocols, was attended by the Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, the vice-president, Carlos Mouta, the councilman for Sports, Vasco Pinho, the administrator of Matosinhos Sport, Henrique Calisto, and the president of the Union of Parishes of Custóias, Leça do Balio and Guifões, Pedro Gonçalves.

In brief words, the Mayor highlighted the budgetary impact of these agreements, whose value is around 2.8 million euros, in a particularly demanding year, not only for families and institutions, but also for the Municipality. However, he considers them fundamental for the fulfillment of the primary objective of Matosinhos being a healthy municipality.

The importance of the work of the municipal company was also highlighted, often "invisible", but decisive in the municipal sports management, along with the dedication, altruism and delivery of the sports and social institutions, which develop their activity essentially with young people and populations with special needs.
