Avenida do Marechal Gomes da Costa, in Porto, to be blocked for traffic for two months

The adaptation works of the carriageway between Rotunda da Boavista and Praça do Império for the 'metrobus' will imply the conditioning of traffic on Avenida do Marechal Gomes da Costa in an extension of about 700 metres, between the intersection with Rua João de Barros and Praça do Império, for a period of two months, from 11 April

The information was released this Monday, April 10, by Metro do Porto. The metrobus project, a line of fast green hydrogen buses that will connect the Rotunda da Boavista to Praça do Império and Rotunda da Anémona, in Matosinhos, started on January 31.

They are eight total kilometres in "ecological" mobility, an investment of 66 million euros "fully funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan", specifies Metro do Porto. On Avenida da Boavista, the BRT - Bus Rapid Transit (technical name for the means of transport known as 'metrobus') - will operate with a dedicated lane, similar to a section of surface metro.

12 new stops on the Boavista-Império-Anémona axis

This Tuesday is "day 1" for the metrobus in Porto: the construction of the first line, which runs from Rotunda da Boavista to Praça do Império, includes the construction of seven surface stations, and promises to radically change the way of travelling along one of the most important bus lines in the city of Porto.

Besides "Casa da Música" station, the stations "Guerra Junqueiro", "Bessa" and "Pinheiro Manso" will also be built - all along Porto's main avenue. Then, the 'metrobus' turns to Marechal Gomes da Costa. There, the BRT line will share the lane with cars, but will circulate on the leftmost lane in both directions.

On Avenida do Marechal Gomes da Costa three other stops will be built: "Serralves", "João de Barros" and Império". In total, the metrobus journey between Casa da Música and Praça do Império will take 12 minutes.
