Book and exhibition at the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library
After "Curls with Colors" and "Klara - the girl with sky eyes", Mariana Jones presents a new literary work aimed at children. "Pedro likes Afonso" is, in the words of the author, "a book for families".
"A text about love, freedom, and individual identity. Because we should all be able to be what we want to be, without prejudice, without guilt, without chains," says Mariana Jones, who has a degree in Social Education.
With a preface by Hugo Monteiro, researcher and professor at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, the work has the support of the Matosinhos City Hall and includes illustrations by Luís Melo. A professor and artist, he has exhibited regularly for almost three decades and has works in private and public collections. In 2001, Luís Melo received the Revelation Award at the Cerveira Biennial.
The book launch is scheduled for next Saturday, February 18th, at 5pm, at the auditorium of the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library.
The book's illustrations will be on display at the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library Gallery until March 11th, Monday through Friday, from 9am to 7pm, and on Saturdays, from 9:30am to 12:30pm and from 1:30pm to 5:30pm. Admission is free. On Sunday, the gallery is closed.
