Awareness actions with the school community
Fostering a culture of safety among citizens has been one of the bets of the Civil Protection of Matosinhos. To this end, it has promoted awareness actions among the school community. Last year, 30 initiatives were streamlined with the participation of 2,110 students and 101 teachers.
This year, until July, 35 awareness actions have already been carried out, dedicated to "Evacuation of the classroom in case of fire". They covered 1382 students, 96 teachers, and 19 educational assistants from Barranha and Estádio do Mar elementary schools, and António Nobre Elementary School.
Topics such as the interpretation of the alarm signal, the understanding of emergency signage, the importance of the head of the line and the front of the line in coordinating the evacuation, the importance of the signalman as an active manager in organizing the evacuation of the building, and the identification of the meeting point at the school were covered.
Situations such as fires or accidents at home were also covered.
Besides the real evacuation exercises in a school context, the trainees also had the opportunity to visit the facilities of the Leixões Voluntary Fire Brigade and get to know all the equipment involved in fire fighting.
Besides the work in schools, the Matosinhos Civil Protection, in partnership with the Mar Shopping Mall, held last May, the first edition of "Together we are safety and health", in which the various Civil Protection agents participated, and which was visited by students from the municipality's schools.
The event culminated with a full-scale drill in response to a fire alarm, which included the evacuation of more than 1,500 people.
