Matosinhos Professional School marks 30 years with a conference at the Paços do Concelho building

The Salão Nobre da Câmara Municipal de Matosinhos hosted yesterday the conference "30 years Epromat - Thinking about the Future" as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Escola Profissional de Matosinhos.

In the opening session were António Correia Pinto, Alderman of Education of the Matosinhos City Hall, and Fernando Sá Pereira, president of the Business Association of Matosinhos and director of Epromat.

Both addressed a few words to the audience where were present professionals, teachers, students and others interested in participating in this emblematic celebration for the educational institution.

Fernando Sá Pereira referred to how the idea of creating a professional school in Matosinhos has grown and "gained wings" and related some of the most striking features of its history.

The town councilman of Education welcomed the fact that the ceremony of 30 years of Epromat happens in the Salão Nobre dos Paços do Concelho, a noble space that belongs to the whole community, and that is the result of excellent institutional relations between both. António Correia Pinto also stressed the important role of this school that came to revolutionize vocational education in Matosinhos and fill the needs of skilled human resources to work in the business and industrial fabric of the county.

"Epromat had the vision to seize the opportunity to support the county through an educational response in the area of trade and services that did not exist," he stressed.

This was followed by the showing of a video allusive to vocational education, to then move effectively to the moment of discussion and reflection on the future of Epromat and vocational education with the presence, among others, of names such as Joaquim Azevedo, professor at the Portuguese Catholic University and a great promoter of vocational education in Portugal, Sandra Rafael, pedagogical director of Epromat, and Rui Dias, director of Epromat and vice president of ANESPO (National Association of Vocational Schools). The initiative also included testimonials from a student of the school and a company that receives professionals trained by Epromat.

It should be recalled that Epromat - Escola Profissional de Matosinhos is owned by the Business Association of the Municipality of Matosinhos, having been founded in 1992 with the aim of being an alternative to regular education in order to create intermediate staff for companies in Matosinhos, while considering the possibility of pursuing higher education studies.

Given the growth in the number of students after a few years of activity, and in order to meet the growing requirements of the Ministry of Education, Epromat felt the need to move facilities. To this end, it had the support of the Matosinhos City Hall and, in July 2015, saw its dream come true with the inauguration of a new school.

Located at the intersection of Avenida Menéres and Rua de Brito Capelo, in a building that had already been a nightclub and wine warehouse, the school was designed by the architect José António Barbosa and resulted from an investment of 600 thousand euros.

The space, with a covered area of about 1,200 square meters consists of 13 classrooms, an auditorium, sound studio and multimedia workshop, offices and support spaces, providing professional courses, learning, education and training for young people and modular training in the areas of Tourism, Marketing, Multimedia, Information Technology, Commerce, Photography, among others.
