This is your story. After getting to know it, come here, learn more about shipwrecks and, who knows, take a chance on a dive. The submarine U-1277 Submarine U-1277Off the coast of Matosinhos, a famous German submarine sunk at the end of the Second World War rests on a sandy bottom, 30 meters deep, with the astern completely silted up and overturned to port at about 45 degrees. The ship's hull is covered with small anemones, thousands of small fish, congers (the largest that can be found in these waters), large octopus and a wonderful community of pink anemones from the North Sea. In the tower, divers can only observe the pressure hull, the periscope and the open hatch. The story Built at the Bremer Vulcan shipyards in Bremen - Vegesack, U-1277 entered service on 3 May 1944 and was launched on 18 May 1944, with command being handed over to Commander Peter-Ehrenreich Stever. This submarine belonged to the eighth flotilla, where it initially devoted itself to tasks of instruction and experimentation. In February 1945, given the shortage of combat submarines, it was transferred to the 11th flotilla. The mission consisted of sailing from Bergen (Norway), as a fully equipped combat submarine, through the Straits of Iceland towards the Atlantic and patrolling the entrance to the English Channel. The crew consisted of 45 men, four of whom were officers – commander, mate, second mate and engineer officer – in addition to the four sergeants and 37 sailors. The age of the crew of this submarine was between 18 and 25 years old. The submarine intentionally sunk in the early hours of June 3, 1945, off Praia do Cabo do Mundo, in Matosinhos, at the behest of its commander, after sailing aimlessly across the Atlantic for a period of one month (the Armistice was signed May 8, 1945, exactly.
