Docapesca has launched a public tender for the €350,000 rehabilitation project to reinforce security at the fishing port of Matosinhos, in the district of Porto, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food announced.
The work "provides for the improvement of the berthing and parking conditions of vessels", including "the replacement of the existing fenders of pier 1 of the fishing port of Matosinhos, as well as the renovation of access to the pier, through the complete replacement of the stairs ", can be read in the statement released today.
The ministry led by Maria do Céu Antunes also indicates that the project is part of a set of interventions that Docapesca intends to implement by 2023 at the site, one of "the most relevant national fishing ports".

For the ministry, "the auction in Matosinhos is of special importance, being currently the second auction in terms of sales value of fish at national level (32 ME [million euros]), being only surpassed by Peniche [district of Leiria] which , in 2021, remained as the main one in the country (39 ME)".
"Sesimbra [Setúbal] (28 ME) occupies the third position, followed by Aveiro (17 ME) and Vila Real de Santo António [Faro] (16 ME)", says the Government.
As for fish traded, in 2021 Sesimbra led (21.5 thousand tons), followed by Matosinhos (20.4 thousand), Peniche (15.1 thousand), Aveiro (8.1 thousand) and Figueira da Foz [Coimbra] ( 7.4 thousand).
