People & Planet - A Common Destiny
People & Planet: A Common Destiny is a European project to mobilize young citizens and local authorities to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and focus on combating climate change. It is funded by the European Union through the DEAR Program, with co-financing from Camões, I.P., involving 17 partners from 8 EU member states and Cape Verde. In Portugal, the project is implemented by the consortium composed by the Municipality of Loures, IMVF, RICD and FUEL.
Under this project, the Municipality of Matosinhos has been developing several actions with the different schools in the municipality and also with volunteers. In 2022 about 262 people participated. The initiatives contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, namely SDG 6, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 17.
Next actions:
Given the recurring drought episodes in Portugal and the constant calls by the authorities for responsible water consumption, global challenges are increasingly local. The impact of climate change is drastically affecting the Planet and People, namely regarding the water available for consumption, on which life depends.

Workshop "The Fascinating Journey of Water
The water we find in Nature is in constant movement between the planet's great natural reservoirs - oceans and freshwater streams, continents, and the atmosphere - along which it changes its physical state. It is through the water cycle that the climate is regulated, water is naturally purified, and conditions are created for life to flourish. In order to ensure the supply of drinking water to populations, man has developed technology to capture and treat water from nature, returning it to the water environment with the quality essential to the preservation of resources. In this workshop families will explore the Natural and Urban Water Cycles, experimenting and simulating the different phases and processes that go through from its capture to its return to nature.
