Sporting (men) and Benfica (women) won again
The Centro de Desportos e Congressos was yesterday the stage for the Futsal Supercups, organized by the Portuguese Football Federation, with the support of the Matosinhos City Hall and Matosinhos Sport.
In the morning, SL Benfica won, in the women's final, the Cultural and Recreational Group Nun'Alvares by 5-4, after overtime (1-1) and the penalty shootout (4-3).
This was the seventh time the eagles won the women's futsal Supercup.
In the afternoon, it was the men's teams' turn to face each other. Sporting CP revalidated the Futsal Super Cup, its fifth in a row, after beating SL Benfica 7-5 on penalty kicks, following an equal match in regulation time (3-3) and overtime (4-4).
In attendance were the mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, the vice-president, Carlos Mouta, the councilman for Sports, Vasco Pinho, the executive director of Matosinhos Sport, Henrique Calisto, the president of the Football Association of Porto, José Neves, the vice-president of the Portuguese Football Federation, José Couceiro, and the director of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pedro Dias.
