Government signs agreement with Matosinhos and 17 other municipalities to build and rehabilitate houses

The agreement provides for the rehabilitation of more than 4,500 houses in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley and in the North. In Matosinhos, Fafe, Guimarães and Lamego, 355 houses will be built and rehabilitated, worth 54 million euros. Luísa Salgueiro said that “some municipalities will not be able to respond”.

The protocol between the government and 18 local authorities to streamline European funds for the housing access program was signed this Monday at the Prime Minister's official residence in Lisbon.

Of the 18 municipalities, 14 are from Lisbon and the Tagus Valley: Almada, Alcochete, Cascais, Lisboa, Loures, Mafra, Moita, Odivelas, Oeiras, Seixal, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sintra and Vila Franca de Xira. The agreement provides for the construction and rehabilitation of 4,130 homes for needy families, for a total of 400 million euros.

The other municipalities are in the North: Matosinhos, Fafe, Guimarães and Lamego, with a total of 355 houses, representing an investment of 54 million euros.

Luísa Salgueiro, speaking to the press, said that “the difficulty so far has not only been to find companies to build, but also to draw up projects to meet the demands they bring in terms of energy efficiency, renovation of parts”, ending by saying that “some municipalities will not have the capacity to respond”, she laments.
