GRD Leça becomes European beach handball champion

The Leceiros beat the Danish Rødby Beach Boys in the final. Ricardo Castro was considered the best goalkeeper in the competition, and Sara Pinho was the top scorer with 132 points.

 


GRD Leça became European beach handball champions in Porto Santo after beating the Danish Rødby Beach Boys in the final of the EHF Beach Handball Cup.

In the last match of the day, the Leceiros even started the first set with a 6-2 lead. In the second set, GRD Leça SPAR allowed themselves to be levelled several times until the score was fixed at 12-12.

The match was only decided in a thrilling shoot-out, in which only the sixth shot was stopped by goalkeeper Ricardo Castro, allowing Rodrigo Gomes to score the winning goal.

Nazaré BHT took third place by beating DAMY RADE Inowroclaw.

In the women's section, GRD Leça Love Tiles were unable to beat The Danish Beachhandball Dream in the fight for third place.

Nevertheless, Leça had two players in the ALL Star Team. Sara Pinho was the competition's top scorer, with 132 points, and Ricardo Castro was named as the best goalkeeper for the second year running.
