Group traffics in millions of euros in drugs

Five defendants of Chinese nationality were convicted yesterday in the Court of Matosinhos for drug trafficking and theft. In greenhouses in Maia were found 680 kilos of cannabis, a product worth more than three million euros.

Three suspects were sentenced to six years and ten months in prison. Two others were sentenced to five years and five years and two months. A sixth defendant was acquitted.

The suspects were also accused of acting in the style of the 'Chinese mafia', extorting merchants in Vila do Conde. These crimes were not proven.
