Heavy rains have once again filled the dams

By December 19, APA reveals that the 79 Portuguese reservoirs were at 77% of capacity, an overall increase of 11.8% in water, compared to the previous week

After many months marked by drought, the heavy rains experienced in the last two weeks have allowed the dams to be refilled and lifted the restrictions on electricity production that had been in place since October in 15 reservoirs. Only one is still under limitation.

By December 19, the 79 Portuguese reservoirs were at 77% of capacity, an overall increase of 11.8% of water compared with the previous week. Of these, the vast majority, 42, were between 81 and 100% of capacity, 15 were between 61 and 80%, and two between 41 and 50%, reveals the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), in the latest bulletin.

Of the 15 dams identified by the government, only the Alto Rabagão dam maintains the restriction on electricity production because it is at 41% of capacity.
