In January, Janeiras is sung

More than 1200 children were at the City Hall

After two years of pandemic, the children and the singing of janeiras returned to Matosinhos and the City Hall to continue a tradition that has lasted for over 20 years.

More than 1200 children from Matosinhos' school groups, from "o Encanto" kindergarten and Santa Cecília kindergarten filled the Town Hall to sing the janeiras and wish the municipal executive a good year 2023.

The janeiras joined in the Salão Nobre dos Paços do Concelho (Town Hall) children, teachers, education assistants, parents and grandparents who, with one voice, expressed their wishes for the year that has just begun.

Also yesterday, the Town Hall received about 120 students from the externato António Nobre who came to share their songs and good wishes for the new year.

The reception to the students was attended by the president of the municipality, Luísa Salgueiro. "For two years we didn't keep this tradition. We were taking care of ourselves and the others, taking care of everyone. Today, fortunately, we filled this noble hall again. The return of these janeiras is a moment of great emotion", stressed the president. Luísa Salgueiro also took the opportunity to salute all the educational community present for the work developed throughout the year. "This symbolic and special moment marks a good beginning for this 2023. Thank you all", she concluded.

Also present at the session were the Councilman of Education, António Correia Pinto, the Councilman of Environment, Manuela Álvares, the Councilman of Culture, Fernando Rocha, and the Councilman of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism, Marta Pontes.
