The CDP - Disclosure Insight Action has just published its annual assessment and for the third consecutive year the Jerónimo Martins Group is in first place in the sector worldwide for its performance - and the transparency of its reporting - in combating climate change, in managing water as a critical resource and in combating deforestation
In these three programmes assessed by CDP, the Jerónimo Martins Group obtained the highest classification (A) in the first two and the leadership level (A-) in the management of all commodities associated with deforestation risk: palm oil, timber, cattle and soy. No other food retailer in the world has achieved such a high ranking.
The Chairman and CEO of the Jerónimo Martins Group, Pedro Soares dos Santos, states that "the consolidation of the outstanding position worldwide in these challenges demonstrates" that they are on the right track "in terms of the sustainable conduct" of their businesses and that the transparency with which they report their "activity and its impacts is widely recognised".
"We welcome, with great satisfaction, and also with a reinforced sense of responsibility, the good news that the CDP annual assessments have brought us. This year we are celebrating 230 years of our Group and I am certain that this longevity is only achievable by companies that have a very strong commitment to the economic, social and environmental sustainability of their businesses, to the societies of which they are part and also to the planet," he adds.
These results reflect the good practices of the Jerónimo Martins Group in managing the relationship between economic prosperity, social development and environmental preservation, which have been recognised internationally with inclusion in more than 100 sustainability indexes, including the Eurozone 120 and Europe 120, both of Euronext Vigeo-Eiris, or the FTSE4Good Global and Europe Indexes.
