Junta de Freguesia signs protocol with the Portuguese Rugby Federation and Leixões SC

Project aims to take the sport to elementary schools in Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira



The Parish Council of Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira, the Portuguese Rugby Federation and Leixões SC signed yesterday, October 20th, a sports cooperation protocol.

This protocol aims at the implementation, teaching and promotion of Rugby in the 1st and 2nd cycle basic schools of Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira.

With regard to this Union of Parishes, in addition to the dissemination of the sport within the school community, the municipality will provide the playing field of the Center for Social and Sports Vítor Oliveira (JF Matosinhos), as well as a room to give curriculum support to athletes before the weekly training.

Present at the signing were the Mayor, Paulo Carvalho, Luís Sarmento, Vice-President of the Portuguese Rugby Federation and Jorge Moreira, President of Leixões SC.

In the words of the mayor, Paulo Carvalho "welcomed this partnership, stating that it will be an excellent way to promote this sport (Rugby) which is governed by extremely positive values. In addition, the mayor also said that "CCD Vítor Oliveira is a public equipment designed to serve the population, so this and other existing partnerships are an excellent way to link the community and the institutions of the city".
