Leixões Port Day

Port of Leixões Day 2022 celebrated with great adhesion of the community



The 13th edition of the Leixões Port Day, celebrated yesterday, September 18th, was a great success, receiving about 20 thousand visitors.

The celebration of the Port of Leixões Day 2022, included lots of entertainment: jugglers and entertainers, concerts, children's plays, dance shows, inflatables, workshops, the photography exhibition "Feeling more than a Port", culminating with the great concert of Bárbara Bandeira, which delighted children and adults.

The visitors, had access to guided tours of the Port of Leixões by boat, showing the port area from a totally different and otherwise inaccessible perspective. This vision of the port by water, attracted a lot of people and ensured a full capacity in all trips made by the boat that received about 2,000 passengers.

The tourist buses also toured the port facilities throughout the day, showing the diversity of its activity. The guided tours to the TITAN, iconic crane, continued to raise interest and great affluence on the part of the Community, which did not want to stop climbing this equipment and experience part of the history of the Port of Leixões. The building of the Cruise Terminal, one of the main entrances of tourists in the region, was also, during all day, very lively having been stage of several events for all ages: "Balls of soap and the Dream of a Shark", "Ballet Show by the School of Ballet of Porto", Cello and Electronic Concert "Dialogues with the Whales", the show of "We Dance", and the concert of "Andor Violeta". This range of offers to add to its architectural beauty and panoramic views, made the Terminal one of the most popular places.

CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research), whose facilities are located in the Cruise Terminal, also had its doors open and many people wanted to know the scientific facilities and demonstrations related to aquatic sciences.

As usual, the APDL Award was celebrated, which distinguishes the best students in High School and Professional Education in the municipality of Matosinhos. This ceremony, represented by the Administrator Joaquim Gonçalves, was attended by the Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, the Alderman of Education, Prof. Correia Pinto, and the Regional Delegate of the Directorate General of Education of the North, Dr. Luis Lobo. In the 2022 edition, the prize was awarded to the students Camila da Silva Rodrigues, from Escola Secundária João Gonçalves Zarco,

Curso Científico-Humanístico Ciências e Tecnologias, who obtained 20 points and Karolina Inês Ângelo Maia Santos Coelho

Escola Secundária da Boa Nova, Professional Course of Health Technician, with an average of 18.2.

This long day of celebration ended with the long-awaited Barbara Bandeira's concert that with its melodies cheered up the community and the Sunset in the Cruise Terminal, outdoor amphitheatre, with a DJ and a bar, making the delights of the many resisters saying goodbye to another celebration of the Leixões Port Day.

APDL welcomes another successful commemoration of Leixões Port Day, which celebrates the existence of the port infrastructure and marks it with the community, so that everyone can have contact with the reality of the largest port infrastructure of northern Portugal and one of the largest ports in the Iberian Peninsula.
