The Matosinhos Vegetarian Gastronomic Festival is back on 20 and 21 July and takes place at Quinta da Conceição in Leça da Palmeira, with free admission. The festival will feature showcookings, yoga and Tai Chi classes at more than 40 exhibitors related to vegetarianism, health and sustainability.
The event invites not only vegetarians, but anyone curious to discover more about the world of cooking with plant-based ingredients.
The festival promises to be full of sharing, recipes, tastings and lots of entertainment for adults and children, from face painting to free themed workshops.
On Saturday 20 July, the stage opens with a Tai Chi class to prepare the body and mind for a weekend of learning and activities. How to age more healthily, vegetarian food for babies and children, vegetarian food in a sporting context and the benefits of a plant-based diet are some of the themes of the talks and talks that the public can attend throughout the day.
Bruna Simões, a contestant on MasterChef Portugal 2024, will present a showcooking session that promises to reveal some vegan recipes with a sea flavour. In the same format, Ana Sofia Rosado will be making tofu recipes.
On Sunday 21 July, the day begins with a yoga class. With more showcookings and masterclasses, featuring Chef Diana Dias, blogger Maria Dordio, Sónia Monteiro, a representative from Filtrarte, and Emanuel Sávio, a finalist on MasterChef Brasil, the second day of the festival showcases countless appetisers and vegetarian recipes for the whole family, showing that it is possible to bring desserts, delicious snacks and healthy food together at the same table.
The programme includes several talks on vegetarianism in conjunction with health and the prevention of chronic diseases, as well as a more serious and equally important moment when medical experts explain the effects of sugar on a "vegetarian brain".
There will be more than 40 exhibitors from Portuguese brands and projects focused on vegetarianism and sustainability. From sweet and savoury options to francesinhas, vegan sausages, sushi, coffee and spices and traditional Portuguese vegan food, the food on offer will be spread across the entire site, with no ingredients of animal origin. Also in this space, you can find new projects related to clothing, accessories, vegan and natural cosmetics, decoration, personal hygiene, water filtration and books on vegetarian and vegan food.
