Registration is open for the conference that will take place on March 17th at Museu da Memória de Matosinhos
The new archaeological and heritage studies carried out in recent years in the Leça Valley, namely at the Castro de Guifões, will be one of the central themes of the Archaeological Days of the Leça Valley, which will take place on Friday, March 17th, all day, at the Memory Museum of Matosinhos.
The Leça River basin is a natural geographical unit that articulates a vast territory where, since ancient times, human occupation has woven a dense network of sites that now form an important archaeological heritage.
The recent and unpublished discoveries are an important contribution for us to know more about a territory that covers the municipalities of Matosinhos, Maia, Valongo and Santo Tirso, in an area of almost 190 km2 that follows the river Leça along its course of just over 40 km from source to mouth, in Matosinhos.
These are a unique opportunity for specialists, teachers and the general public to deepen their knowledge about the territory, the importance of archaeology, the techniques and methodologies used in the different moments and processes, and to get to know the conclusions of the research studies carried out, as well as the most recent archaeological discoveries in the Leça valley.
The archaeological excavations in Castro do Monte Castêlo de Guifões and the excavations at the archaeological site of Gatões, under the construction of the north zone of Pole 2 (Gatões/Guifões) of the Logistic Platform of Leixões or the Archaeological Chart of the municipality will be themes addressed.
The participation is free of charge and the capacity of the space is limited.
The Archaeological Conferences of the Leça River Valley are certified by CFAE - Centro de Formação de Associação das Escolas de Matosinhos and allow the accumulation of credits, regarding the participation of teachers.
Registration or information by email mumma@cm-matosinhos.pt or phone 229 390 967.
