The new unit will increase waste processing capacity and ensure greater flexibility in waste classification, and will be used for green waste from cemeteries
The inauguration of the new sorting unit took place last 3 May, in LIPOR's facilities.
This event, attended by LIPOR's Board of Directors, represents an investment of approximately 1 million seven hundred thousand Euros, financed by POSEUR - Operational Programme for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources.
The new unit's purpose is to increase processing capacity, ensure an increase in efficiency, the degree of purity of the materials and allow for greater flexibility through the classification of other types of waste.
According to the Chairman of LIPOR's Board of Directors, José Manuel Ribeiro, "This investment reinforces LIPOR's and the municipalities' commitment to maximise the amount of waste to be recovered, thus making a relevant contribution to the fulfilment of Portugal's goals and objectives towards the European Union".
This intervention, which includes the use of technology that will enable to monitor in real time the whole production process, will have a maximum nominal capacity of 4 tons/hour, corresponding to an annual treatment capacity of over 7,000 tons of waste, thus meeting the challenges defined by the National Waste Management Plan, PERSU 2030.
