Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing selects female crew

Matosinhos teams compete for international qualification

On September 17 and 18, the Women On Water Portugal - Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing 2022 will take place, in a regatta program that also includes the traditional Regata do Infante, sailed by cruisers.

Women On Water (WoW) is the only 100% women's regatta held in Portugal, with 6 crews in the water, with a total of 30 sailors. The race will serve to qualify the Portuguese teams to compete in the international final, which in 2022 will be held in Switzerland, between October 7 and 9. It should be noted that in the sailing world this is the model of competition in the format of the European Champions League, with the sailors representing their clubs.

Among the crews in evidence are two teams, both from the Clube de Vela Atlântico: the young crew of Leonor Pereira, Joana Montalvão, Adriana Almeida and Leonor Pires; and the team led by Susana Lima, with Catarina Moura, Júlia Martins and Carolina Cruz.

The championship will be held in the Douro River, near Gaia and Foz margins, having the Douro Marina as base, providing a lively competition and a magnificent landscape framing to this part of the river. The regattas will start on Saturday at 11am and on Sunday at 10:30am, with the races taking place during these days.

The championship model is that the 6 teams compete against each other, in J70 class boats, in a series of several short races, of about 30 minutes, which privileges the quality of the sailors and the boat maneuvering.

This regatta is organized by BBDouro Sailing Academy in partnership with Lusíadas Saúde, which, besides providing the official medical service of Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing 2022, will organize free nursing assessment consultations and sessions with specialists on relevant health issues.

Regatta of the Infant joins more than 50 boats on the coast of Matosinhos and the banks of the Douro

The Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing 2022 has in its program the traditional Regata do Infante, which is the biggest cruising regatta in Portugal, with more than 50 boats and 400 sailors. This competition is scheduled for September 17 and will pass through the waters of Porto and Matosinhos, arriving in the Douro River near the historic area of Ribeira.

It should be noted that this competition is the only accessible regatta in the country, with the participation of the Lusíadas Boat For ALL, the first catamaran in the world, which, by meeting all the technical and safety requirements, accommodates up to four wheelchairs and allows the practice of sailing to the entire population.
