Maquitex - International Exhibition of Machinery, Technology and Accessories for the Textile, Apparel, Clothing, Printing and Embroidery Industry is bringing together the sector's productive force for the 19th time at EXPONOR, from 26 to 28 March, from 10h00 to 19h00.
The event, organised jointly with OFFE - Organização Funcional de Feiras e Eventos, presents the largest technical and technological showcase of a vital activity for the Portuguese economy, and exhibits the best and most up-to-date machinery, equipment, accessories, raw materials and services for the textile, clothing, embroidery, printing, fashion and related industries.
Maquitex will welcome businesspeople, managers and directors with expertise in the production process of companies, technical staff, production, purchasing and supply managers, as well as staff from the commercial, quality, engineering and research departments, as well as designers and consultants.
The event is taking place at a particularly challenging time for Portuguese exports in the sector, marked by the uncertainty of the external economic orientation of Donald Trump's recently appointed administration, given that the United States is one of the main destination markets for various segments, particularly bed linen, table linen and bath linen, where they are the top players.
"Maquitex is a showcase - and a sample - of choice for the production capacity and quality of Portuguese textiles and clothing. This sector has been able to reinvent itself, above all through innovation and the incorporation of technology. And all this is happening in companies and technology centres at a time when there is a strong commitment to research, development and innovation projects, in order to give the business fabric additional competitiveness in the years to come, which will be seen at the fair," says EXPONOR's general director, Diogo Barbosa.
At Maquitex, "you'll see how several Portuguese manufacturers are leading the way in developing and customising equipment for the international textile industry. And how they have distinguished themselves by their ability to implement innovative solutions that enable business productivity, guided by sustainability, digitalisation and portfolio transition," notes Carlos Cunha, general director of OFFE.
By November 2024, the activity's exports totalled 5.152 billion euros, a decrease of 4% in value compared to 2023, but an increase of 1% in quantity (441.1 thousand tonnes of products). The sector's trade balance totalled 392 million euros. Spain, France and Germany remain the three main destination markets, while Morocco, the United States of America and Poland are the countries that have seen the biggest increase in recent months.
At the same time, the 5th edition of Maquishoes - Machinery, Technology and Accessories Fair for the Footwear Industry will be held, a sector platform where trends, solutions and innovations are presented for the entire footwear industrial value chain, which is currently developing dozens of modernisation projects (automation, digitalisation and sustainability) and preparing for the future.
