MarShopping donates €7,000 to equip space for cancer patients

A €1 entry at the ‘Christmas Kingdom’, which ran until 6 January, will help the Association for the Support of People with Cancer.

MAR Shopping Matosinhos will donate €7,000 to the Association for the Support of People with Cancer (AAPC), which will be used to refurbish a space where healthy food workshops will be held for cancer patients.

Between 28 November 2024 and 6 January this year, MAR Shopping Matosinhos provided children who visited the Meeting Place with a ‘Christmas Kingdom’, which included a photo booth, a workshop to create Christmas decorations and a mini skating rink on synthetic ice, the €1 entrance fee of which was donated to this cause. With the support of this initiative, MAR Shopping Matosinhos will donate 7,000 euros to the AAPC.

All the money raised as a result of the MAR Shopping Matosinhos initiative will be used to implement the Nutrir + Saúde project, which consists of renovating a space at the AAPC headquarters to hold workshops, lectures and showcooking on healthy food and oncological nutrition open to the public. This is the aim of Dr Susana Pires Duarte, director of the AAPC's Social Department, ‘to raise awareness among the general population of the importance of a balanced diet and the acquisition of healthy lifestyles to prevent the onset of cancer, on the one hand, and to provide cancer patients with beneficial knowledge about food and nutrition, on the other hand’.
