The metrobus will connect Matosinhos to the Airport, on a 10-kilometre route with 11 stations. The connection represents an investment of 23 million euros and follows the deactivation of the Galp refinery.
Matosinhos City Council launched, this Monday, the public tender for the construction of the metrobus line, with an investment of 23 million euros.
According to the announcement published in the Official Gazette, the project will take 14 months to complete and candidates have until February 4, 2025 to submit their proposals.
The Matosinhos metrobus will connect the Municipal Market to the Verdes station in Maia, covering a total of 10 kilometres and 11 stations: Senhor de Matosinhos, Exponor, Rua Veloso Salgado, MarShopping, Jomar, OPO City, Avenida Mário Brito, the airport, Botica and ending at the Verdes station in Maia. Of these, seven have connections to buses or the metro.
This route will take 25 minutes to complete, with departures every 15 minutes during rush hour. The vehicle will have capacity for 160 people.
The 23 million euro investment, which will serve the municipalities of Matosinhos and Maia, will be financed entirely by the Just Transition Fund.
The metrobus connection comes after the deactivation of the Galp refinery in Leça da Palmeira.
