Tribute to fishermen who lost their lives at sea

Established by the Government in 1998 with the aim of recognizing the unequivocal importance of the role played by Portuguese fishermen and their decisive contribution to the evolution of our country, the National Fisherman's Day was celebrated today in Matosinhos.

The tribute ceremony took place at the Sendim cemetery and was attended by the president of the Núcleo de Amigos de Pescadores de Matosinhos (Napesmate), Agostinho Sá Pereira, the president of the union of the parishes of Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira, Paulo Carvalho, and other figures from Matosinhos linked to the activity.

In the Mausoleum of Mártir S. Sebastião, wreaths were placed in memory of all the fishermen who lost their lives at sea, in the performance of their duties.
