"The Administration of the Ports of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo (APDL) informs that it will close the Leixões Mobile Bridge, from 2:00 pm on June 20, 2022 [today], in order to carry out repair work. maintenance in a cylinder, for an estimated period of two weeks", can be read in a press release released last week by the port administration.
The mobile bridge, built in 2007, will be subject to "preventive maintenance work", according to APDL, as it "needs periodic maintenance taking into account its characteristics and recurrent use", justifies the company chaired by Nuno Araújo.
During the course of the works, "as a mitigating measure, APDL will ensure the transport of passers-by between Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira, free of charge, with car traffic directed towards the viaduct of Highway 28".
The company explains that "transport between the banks will be provided by buses chartered by APDL for this purpose, which include the transport of bicycles and similar equipment".
The bus service will operate for 24 hours, "every 10 minutes during the day (from 07:00 to 22:00) and every 20 minutes during the night (from 22:00 to 07:00)".
