Matosinhos municipal company reinforces its appeal to citizens to donate furniture and electrical/electronic equipment at one of the available collection points
The current socioeconomic situation has affected more and more families all over the country. This fact led to the creation of the MatosinhosHabit Goods Bank, which, since 2020 and in partnership with LIPOR's CREW Project - Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Recovery Centre, has collected, refurbished and delivered furniture and equipment to several families in socioeconomic vulnerability situations, as identified by the institutions of the Matosinhos Social Network.
The Matosinhosense community has actively participated in the donation of goods, thus contributing to mitigate the difficulties at individual, family and/or community level of these citizens. Since January 2023, 259 items of equipment have been collected by MatosinhosHabit and its partners. They are sent to LIPOR, reconditioned and delivered to families and institutions.
According to Manuela Álvares, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MatosinhosHabit, "this initiative aims, first and foremost, to help those who need it most, through community solidarity. There are hundreds of families living in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability that, without help, would not be able to afford these types of goods. Another focus is sustainability. With this intervention we are promoting the Circular Economy, rethinking and reducing unnecessary consumption, reusing, repairing, recycling, and thus combating waste. In the last 16 months 580 perfectly operational pieces of equipment were donated".
THE CALL FOR SOLIDARITY REMAINS
Manuela Álvares reinforces the appeal to citizens so that the initiative continues to grow and reaches more and more families: "if you have furniture or any electrical/electronic equipment that you no longer use, give it a second chance, donate it. Give it to MatosinhosHabit's Goods Bank or to the Matosinhos Professional School (EPROMAT), and help these families to live with a little more comfort".
