Classified the Former house of Siza and the Miller's House
The family home of architect Álvaro Siza, on Rua Roberto Ivens, in Matosinhos, will be classified as a Monument of Municipal Interest.
The decision was taken by the Municipal Executive, last Wednesday, at the public meeting, which took place at the Padre Ângelo Ferreira Pinto Social and Parish Center, in Perafita, following a decentralization strategy.
Built in the mid-19th century, the house was remodeled in 1961 by Álvaro Siza himself, at the request of his parents.
In 2007, the property was acquired by the Câmara de Matosinhos which, after a rehabilitation project, also supervised by Álvaro Siza, installed the Álvaro Siza Documentation Center there in 2009. The headquarters of Casa da Arquitectura operated in the same space until 2017, the year in which it was transferred to its current premises, at Real Vinícola.
This year, the house was transformed into an Artistic Residence to host researchers, curators and architects. For this purpose, adaptation works were necessary, which were accompanied by Álvaro Siza. The investment was made and supported by the municipality.
The space, managed by Casa da Arquitectura – Centro Português de Arquitectura, assumes itself as a dynamic center for the study and research around contemporary architecture and the collections that are in the care of the institution's archive.
The Casa do Moleiro, in Angeiras de Cima, in Lavra, will also be classified as a Monument of Municipal Interest.
Owned by the heirs of Celestino Dias da Costa and located on Rua de Maio and Rua da Cruz, the farmhouse maintains the common characteristics of this type of property in the region. At the beginning of the 20th century, architectural elements were added to the original construction that gave it greater importance in the set of houses in Lugar de Angeiras de Cima.
