Ordinary public meetings in the parishes of the municipality
The usual ordinary public meeting of the Municipal Executive was held on February 22, in Guifões, following a decentralization strategy.
The goal is to bring the citizens closer to the local government, making them aware of the workings of the municipal bodies and encouraging civic participation in solving individual and collective problems.
The ordinary public meeting of the Municipal Executive in Matosinhos was conducted by the vice-president of the municipality, Carlos Mouta.
Present was the president of the union of the parishes of Custóias, Leça do Balio and Guifões, Pedro Gonçalves, who addressed, among other issues, the need to transform the old facilities of Monte Ramalhão and Passos Manuel schools for other purposes. About this matter, Carlos Mouta pointed out that, in the case of the former Passos Manuel school, the installation of a kindergarten is planned, and the project is already completed. As for the possibility of installing a home for the elderly in the old school Monte Ramalhão, the vice president said that an application will be submitted to the program PRR - Recovery and Resilience Plan after a private charity, based in Guifões, have seen their application rejected by the Program for Extension of Responses and Social Equipment.
The Municipal Executive unanimously approved, following a minute of silence, a vote of regret for the death of João Santos, former mayor of Guifões for 23 years, between 1982 and 2005.
He was born in Guifões on May 25, 1930. He was an employee of the Municipal Water and Sanitation Services of Matosinhos. Associative leader in several associations of the parish, João Santos was the founder and member no.1 of the Centro Cultural e de Solidariedade Social de Guifões and of the Associação Social e de Desenvolvimento de Guifões.
Also unanimously was approved the proposal of praise for sports merit to the athlete from Matosinhos, Carlos Manuel Sampaio Nascimento, who recently became five-time national champion in indoor track and field athletics, in the 60 meters flat, becoming the Portuguese athlete with more titles in that distance.
In the period before the agenda, among other issues, the update of the Regulation of Fees and Other Municipal Revenue and the mobility constraints were discussed, namely the need for more control of excessive speed and the need to improve public transport in the parishes north of the river Leça.
