Pedro Filipe Soares is Bloco de Esquerda's candidate for Matosinhos City Council

The party's former parliamentary leader will be the candidate for Matosinhos. The official presentation will take place this Friday at the Florbela Municipal Library.

Pedro Filipe Soares will be the Left Bloc's candidate for Matosinhos City Council in the 2025 local elections.

The official presentation will take place this Friday at the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library, at 21.00.

In a note published on social media, the MP states his intention to fight for housing, ‘with homes at fair prices and accessible to those who work, where families can live without the burden of rents or impossible credits.’. He also mentions the need for intervention in health, public transport and the cleanliness of the municipality, particularly the beach.


Who is Pedro Filipe Soares?

The 46-year-old MP, originally from Castelo de Paiva, joined the Left Bloc in 2002. He has been a member of the Portuguese Parliament since 2009 and has served on various parliamentary committees, including the economy, finance and foreign affairs. He was leader of the Parliamentary Group and is a member of the National Bureau and the Political Commission of the Left Bloc.

In February, Pedro Filipe Soares was elected to the Left Bloc's Porto district coordinating committee.


In Portugal there are 308 municipalities (278 on the mainland, 19 in the Azores and 11 in Madeira) and 3,092 parish councils (2,882 on the mainland, 156 in the Azores and 54 in Madeira). The elections are due to take place between September and October.
