The district of Porto is this Wednesday under yellow warning, due to the forecast of rain, sometimes heavy, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts of wind
The alert was issued by the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) and extends until 21:00, covering also the districts of Viseu, Vila Real, Aveiro, Coimbra, Viana do Castelo and Braga.
Due to sea disturbance, with waves from the west/southwest that can reach 4 to 5 meters high, there is also a yellow warning for Porto. According to the information advanced, the waves may "gradually become west/northwest waves", between 03h00 on Thursday and 03h00 on Friday.
Taking into account the worsening weather conditions, Civil Protection warned of the possibility of flooding this Wednesday and Thursday in the northern and central regions of the country.
Thus, it is recommended to "clear the rainwater drainage systems and remove aggregates and other objects that can be dragged or create obstacles to the free flow of water" as well as the proper fixing of structures such as scaffolding and billboards, warned the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC).
It is also recommended to reduce speed on the roads and it is not recommended to circulate and stay in riverside areas subject to the inundation of the sea, as well as the practice of sport fishing, water sports and seaside walks.
