Praia Stadium hosts korfball championship games

The Praia Stadium grounds, installed next to the Transparent Building, hosted the “Beach Korfball Portugal Open”

In question are games alluding to the korfball championship, a modality that represents a “fusion between handball and basketball, played with a soccer ball”.

“Each formation, made up of four female and four male athletes, aims to invade the opponent's field to try to place the ball in a basket 3.5 meters high. Without dribbling, moving with the ball or taking it out of the hands of opponents, players can only try to score in specific positions”, explains the municipal company Ágora, a partner entity of the event, organized by the Portuguese Corfebol Federation (FPC).

The competitions, from the first and second divisions of the Beach Corfball Championship, started in the early afternoon and ended at the end of the day. In total, the initiative will have 11 teams, represented by 200 players.

The program also includes matches of the Beach Adapted Korfball Championship and a school training action.

After the korfball championship, the Praia Stadium will continue to host various competitions. Also in June, the 23rd, 24th and 25th, rugby matches will be played and in July and August competitions in volleyball, football, tennis, handball and footvolley are planned.

Interested parties can watch the matches in person, at Estádio de Praia, or virtually, through the FPC's youtube channel.
