Specialized Technology Centers

Five applications are advancing this year

"Our economy is growing, but there is a lack of skilled labor. We need to empower the country to respond to the needs of industry, of companies. The first line of response is always at the local level," says the mayor of Matosinhos.

Luísa Salgueiro spoke at the protocol signing session between the municipality, the secondary schools and the professional schools, in the scope of the application to set up Specialized Technological Centers.

The goal is to modernize the supply and the educational and professional training establishments.

The partnership with the municipality of Matosinhos is one of the necessary steps for the application, under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) funding and according to the objectives of the National Strategy 2030.

Between 2022 and 2025, 365 Specialized Technological Centers are planned throughout the country. In Matosinhos, in this first phase, five applications will be submitted, in the following areas: Industrial Technological Specialization (Escola Secundária João Gonçalves Zarco and Escola Profissional Alternância); Computer Technological Specialization (Escola Secundária Augusto Gomes and Escola Profissional EPROMAT); Digital Technological Specialization (Escola Profissional EPROMAT).

Despite not being based in Matosinhos, the application of the Escola Artística e Profissional Árvore, in the Digital Technological Specialization Area, also has the support of the municipality.

For 2023, six other applications are expected.

"Courage" was the word that the Alderman of Education used to define the applications that will be submitted in this first phase, praising the work of the promoters in view of the "significant" value of the investment in relation to the reference values.

The investment foreseen for each Specialized Technological Center varies between 1.1 and 1.7 million Euros according to the typology by area of technological specialization.

For the 365 centers to be created in the country, the estimated global allocation is 480 million euros.

"This is a very important moment for the credibility of professional education in the country and in the county. The technological evolution throws constant challenges to the training offer, which has to adapt to the needs of the labor market," said António Correia Pinto.
