Travelling without haste" campaign already started

Integrated in the National Enforcement Plan 2023, the "Travelling without haste" campaign started this Tuesday, January 31

A road safety measure that aims to "alert drivers to the risks of speeding" and is the result of collaboration between the National Republican Guard (GNR), the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR).

This action takes place until February 6, and includes several enforcement operations, carried out by GNR and PSP "with special focus on roads and accesses with high traffic flow", as well as awareness actions by ANSR. Porto, Póvoa de Varzim, Braga, Lisbon and Seixal, are some of the locations covered by this campaign.

"In a hit-and-run accident, the probability of there being fatal victims increases according to the speed at which the vehicles circulate. If a vehicle travels at 30 km/h, the probability of the consequences of a collision being fatal is 10%. Increasing the speed to 50 km/h, the probability becomes 80%", reads the official statement sent to VIVA!

The authorities also report that "this is one of the main causes of accidents on the roads and is responsible for more than 60% of recorded violations," and "can be avoided by adopting safe behavior on the road.
