Tree recognized and valued at "Tree in Urban Space" event

Matosinhos City Hall marked the World Tree Day with a lecture on the theme

"Tree in the urban space" was the theme of the lecture that took place yesterday, March 21, in the Salão Nobre da Câmara de Matosinhos.

"The Municipality of Matosinhos recognizes and values the importance of the tree in our urban space, which is why it assumes this heritage so particular and essential as one of the major priorities for action of the municipality, not wanting to miss the theme also in the context of the celebrations of World Tree Day, celebrated today," began by saying the councilor for Environment, Manuela Alvares, who opened the lecture.

The councilwoman made some considerations about the role of the tree in urban space, particularly in health, highlighting its contribution to improving the quality of life for all of us, with the production of oxygen, the easing of urban temperature, reducing the level of pollutants, among others.

This was followed by the intervention of the guest speaker, Paulo Farinha Marques, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, Director of the Botanical Garden of Porto, an active agent in the work with Urban Forestry and coordinator of the Urban Forestry Plan for the Municipality of Porto.

The session was also attended by representatives of municipalities and parish councils, universities, companies, associations, among other guests.

This lecture is the first of three and is part of the Cycle of Lectures on the Tree (with dates to be announced), an initiative of the municipality that aims to share knowledge and promote awareness about the tree.
