After meeting with the management of the Employment and Vocational Training Institute (IEFP) and the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-Norte), the union leader, João Marinho, told JN that the meeting with the Matosinhos City Hall aims "to get answers about the funds that are or will be applied to support former workers, namely from the Fair Transition Fund, announced in December by the European Commission".
Of the 223.8 million euros of this fund, about 60 million are destined for Matosinhos, after the closure of Petrogal, in Leça da Palmeira. The meeting takes place at 16.30 hours in the Chamber building, in the presence of the vice-president of the Executive, Carlos Mouta.
A year and a half after the dismissal, the union leader says that "so far only promises have been made and nothing has been done to minimize the losses that the workers are living".
"In addition to knowing which funds will be injected, the union wants to understand how they will guarantee an improvement in the conditions of the workers in the long term," explained João Marinho.
According to João Marinho, "it should be a responsibility of Galp itself to reintegrate the workers in the labor market, but also of the government that facilitated the process so that the collective dismissal happens in September 2021".
