The screening of eye diseases in the Grouping of Schools of Senhora da Hora took place yesterday, at the Basic School of Barranha and was attended by the Vice Mayor of Matosinhos, Carlos Mouta and the President of the Union, Leonardo Fernandes
The School of Health / Polytechnic of Porto, through its Technical Scientific Area of Orthoptics, in partnership with the Trofa Saúde Hospital of Matosinhos, the Parish Union of São Mamede de Infesta and Senhora da Hora, Matosinhos City Council and Lions Club Senhora da Hora, are conducting a screening of eye diseases that cause decreased vision (amblyopia) in the Grouping of Schools of Senhora da Hora and São Mamede de Infesta.
This screening is carried out through photographs of the eyes of the students, which will detect these changes. The result will be communicated (delivered) to the parents and, if there are risk factors for vision, it is recommended to go as soon as possible to the family doctor, pediatrician, ophthalmologist, or a reference hospital.
The activity will cover 408 pre-school children in the Parish of São Mamede de Infesta and Senhora da Hora and will be held every Tuesday until June 6, 2023.
These screenings are of enormous importance to the student population, since they allow the early identification of visual problems that, if not corrected, may compromise the academic success of students.
