Workshop on Circular Design closes the "Be Matosinhos - Month of Companies" programme

Workshop held in the Auditorium of the Parish Council of São Mamede Infesta, where it was disclosed the process CIRCO teaches to create businesses through circular design

The workshop "Creating businesses through circular design" closed this Friday, 14 October, the program "Be Matosinhos - Month of Companies". The workshop was attended by the councillor for Economic Development, Trade and Tourism, Marta Pontes and the councillor of the Parish Council of São Mamede Infesta, Luísa Miguel, who opened the event.

The workshop took place in the auditorium of the parish council of S. Mamede de Infesta and was coordinated by researcher Cristina Rocha from the National Laboratory for Energy and Geology, with the support of António Oliveira and Jorge Alexandre, also researchers from INEG.

The workshop was based on the CIRCO (Creating Business through Circular Design) design process, which emerged in the Netherlands in 2015 and is based on the application of design and design thinking to the development of circular products, services and business models. This method inspires and empowers companies and designers to create businesses in the framework of a circular economy, thus intending to create more sustainable solutions, through knowledge and tools, passing through the implementation of greener solutions.

In Portugal, the programme is called "CIRCO HUB PORTUGAL" and already has the participation of 55 companies. Financed by the Environmental Fund, it is coordinated by the National Laboratory of Energy and Geology, and executed in partnership with IAPMEI - Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation and APA - Portuguese Agency for the Environment. The programme's deadline for completion is July next year.

The programme has already been tested in several European countries and on other continents, indicating very high success rates.
