World Goalball Championship

The sports event takes place for the first time in Portugal, at the Sports and Congress Center, from December 7th to 16th

The World Goalball Championship will be held for the first time in its history in Portugal, at the Centro de Desportos e Congressos in Matosinhos, from 7 to 16 December. The draw took place last weekend, at the Leixões Cruise Terminal, with the presence of Vasco Pinho, Councillor for Sports, and Leonardo Fernandes, President of the Union of Parishes of S. Mamede de Infesta.

The event is organized by the International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) and is supported by the Matosinhos City Hall and Matosinhos Sport.

Goalball is a team sport with a ball, invented after World War II, and practiced by athletes who are visually impaired. The goal of the game is to throw a ball with the hands so that the ball enters the opponent's goal. Each team must play with three players and three reserves, and all athletes must wear blindfolds.
